Potential Store Concepts

I am definitely feeling strongest about my first idea.

Trash to Treasure

This store concept is about recontextualizing, rebranding and remarketing old, used and recycled goods as treasure. Basically: junkyard/thrift store/dump + beautiful design, marketing & packaging. I feel as though the beauty and uniqueness we as creatives and art students recognize in items at secondhand and thrift stores is lost on the majority of the populous, who cannot get past the "used" nature of the products. With the power of design, advertising and marketing, I that I could make these items appealing to the masses once again. Trash to Treasure is a terrible name, it would need to be something more clever. Still working on that.
I like the idea because it recycles existing products instead of filling the world with more material garbage. Plus, the store would rely on creativity to be successful: the creativity of the designers and copywriters repackaging and marketing these products, so it is directly linked to the creative writing tutoring that goes on in the back of the store.

The Huge Store

The concept behind this store is that everything sold in the store would be slightly smaller than one might expect. Say, about 75% of their normal size. This size fluctuation would be mirrored in the doors, windows, shelves, and even employees of the store, with the intent being to make anyone who shops in the store feel like a giant. The title of the store is counter intuitive; one might expect it to sell only huge things, but instead it makes the shopper feel huge.

The Movie Store

The goal of this store is to make the life of the shopper like a movie. It would sell kits that contained all of the things you might need for a stereotypical or overused movie scene. For example, everything you need for a "becoming more beautiful" or "getting more physically strong" montage, or everything you need for a deep conversation in the rain scene. Customers would be able to go to the store and just buy an experience, more or less.

  1. Great selection of ideas, Andy.

I'm really interested in the first and third idea, and in particular, I think that the first idea could be developed to be really interesting.

Perhaps it's the "Obsolete Store", and you play up the idea of things that are no longer of interest to most people. I think it just needs a stronger hook to work.

I'm also really into the idea of the giant store, but think it needs some more work as it's dependent on the physicality of the actual space as opposed to the products for the most part.
